work-life-balance

When we think about balance we often forget the time aspect.

Consider the ever popular work-life balance, or the operations-innovation balance. At any given point in time, we can only ever be doing one thing. We are either working and not living, or we are innovating/changing and not operating our business as usual. The sea-saw of balance is never static! Life is like that.

To understand whether we are balanced requires we define the period of time to examine, as well as our criteria for balance.

Aspiring to a static moment of balance that we then try to hold on to for as long as possible is an illusion that is guaranteed to disappoint.
