A process of structured creative thinking (design thinking) + deep generalists is a powerful combination to deal with change.

If we can consciously train people to use such a process, and value people who can think this way, then we can only be that much better equipped to deal with the challenges we face today and tomorrow.

Are universities brave enough to more intimately link their design, business and technology schools? Can you imagine the turf wars this could set off?

The recruitment industry certainly seem unwilling to move beyond their simplistic checkboxes of clearly defined functional roles.

Can you see recruiters rushing to fill key strategic positions with someone who is a deep “generalist” especially if they have not spent 30+ years in conservative senior finance/management roles?

Will society ever be able to understand and value this sort of thinking and people? Are there enough people who care enough to look up from their immediate jobs and day to day concerns?
