This Confession of a Corporate Drone highlighted some "fun" facts as "faking positive feelings at work was associated with lower employee satisfaction and increased job burnout."
Pretence saps energy - energy that would have been better used for productivity and ... gasp! innovation!
I think this is one big reason why many businesses find it hard to become more innovative. The inherent potential is wasted on repressing expression, faking smiles and servicing the myth that "a job is supposed to be something we hate."
More reasons to acknowledge that business is personal. And that to be creative requires that we be real.
