Our brains are very good at supporting and bolstering our ingrained beliefs and perceptions of the world. Left to its own devices, it dutifully filters all the incoming information and stimuli to present only what supports our current worldview.

For example – I may be freely giving my attention, energy and time away to everyone and anyone because deep down inside I do not believe anyone would pay for them; but my rational mind would be telling me that I am practising generosity and “aren’t I being good”!

In the same way, someone who is expecting others to look down upon them because of their skin colour or whatever will suddenly find that the world is indeed a horrid place filled with nasty people. We manifest our beliefs about the world.

It can be easier to change someone else than it is to change yourself. Especially when it comes to these ingrain beliefs – where our rational mind actually works against us.
