eicolab: design thinking for business innovation

15 differentiation points

  1. I give a damn about using human-centric design, technology and business innovation to make a real difference to how people work, learn and live.
  2. I work to contribute to my clients’ success, not to pander to my ego. I work to add practical value.
  3. I only work _with_ people. I don’t direct, control, or manipulate. I expect everyone I work with to be competent, dedicated to the cause, and honourable.
  4. I love ideas. From wild and wacky ideation, to rational evaluation, and logical strategic planning. Seeing a great idea through to reality is the best thing ever.
  5. I love starting projects – understanding requirements, clarifying issues, imagining possibilities, and then working out how to proceed towards reality.
  6. I thrive on diversity. People, clients, projects, tasks, deliverables, and food. I am open-minded and accepting.
  7. My key strength is my breadth of work experience, creativity and problem-solving skills. I am a T-shaped deep generalist. I bring cross-industry and cross-cultural insights to every project.
  8. I cross easily between design (information, visuals, systems, spaces, and objects), technology, psychology, management and business innovation. I am equally comfortable in pedagogy and practical applications.
  9. I identify patterns in, and see pathways through, complex situations. I build models and create information graphics to illuminate concepts.
  10. I distil clarity from complexity, and help my clients discover authentic, unique and innovative solutions to their business challenges. Every business is different.
  11. I listen. I spent a year honing my empathy and learning counselling skills. (I am prepared for the attention economy.)
  12. I respect all perspectives. Even the ones I disagree with.
  13. I don’t pretend to know everything. And I don’t have to be right.
  14. I tell it like it is. And I am always nice about it. Business is personal.
  15. I can work effectively in Mandarin. I can look at Arabic script and make the sounds. I can also read musical notation and XML.

Beautiful businesses = a better world

Business is the most powerful force of change today.

Business is personal. Business directly affects lives (though we like to pretend otherwise).

Business can facilitate personal growth, collaboration towards grand outcomes, the creation of abundance for all, community building, a celebration of life, and a path to self actualisation.

When I contribute to a beautiful business, I am helping another good gal/guy to thrive.

The more beautiful businesses out there, the better our world will be.

“I” and “We”

This site is written from the “I” perspective because much of the time you will be dealing directly with me.

Sometimes, where additional/specialist skills are needed, I partner with programmers, printers, manufacturers and specialist consultants. That is when the “I” becomes truthfully a “we”. And I know some really good people.

Sometimes, I also work as part of a client’s internal team. It all depends on what your project needs.

(If you would rather I pretend to be a “big company”, perhaps we are not ready to work with each other just yet.)
