Diversity is more than just hiring diverse people in your organisation.
If everyone in your organisation is unwilling, or don't know how to connect to each other, then your organisation is no more diverse beyond the politically-correct stock photos on your website.
To leverage the benefits of diversity requires work.
- There is the work to set aside entrenched notions of “we have always done it this way.”
- There is the work individuals must do to challenge their fundamental beliefs about how the world “should” be.
- There is the work to foster greater curiosity about others who are different, and how we can all contribute differently to the greater good.
- And the work to actively develop communication and collaboration skills, founded on a basis of good EQ...
Not easy.
But then nothing worth doing ever is.
