dark side of wisdom

Sometimes, the more we know, the more uncertain and doubtful we become (at least for those of us who have some level of self awareness.)

Experience gives us the wisdom to correctly anticipate pitfalls. This predictive insight also makes us more reticent and apprehensive.

Have you ever turned down an opportunity because you can see the obstacles all too clearly? Or because you don't want to say "I don't know"?

In becoming experts, we can miss out on potential avenues for new experiences and growth. Real growth requires we feel the fear and do it anyway.

How can we increase our expertise without unwittingly closing ourselves to new opportunities?

I suspect the answer will be different for each one of us. For me, I will embrace the uncertainty, the not-knowing, the doubts and the fears. And some of the time, I will do it anyway.
