“Bad things happen overnight, and the good things take time.”
This idiom neatly embodies the risk profile of most businesses. We spend a lot of time working out what could go wrong. Consequently, we spend too much time focusing on fire fighting, and too little on investing in longer term things that can potentially bring larger benefits in the longer term.
Does this also explain how businesses continue to flirt with danger over simple-to-fix things like data backup?
