On the left is the normal lighting set up for the elevators. Nice, simple and swish. Love it.
When the elevator is on the move, a green or red light shows above the door. Again, very minimalist. And in keeping with the general interior fit-out.
But wait – which direction is the elevator going?
How many people know the colour convention for elevator direction? And if they did, how many can actually remember it?
I didn’t know. And every time I am in this building I get confused by the elevators.
“Direction indicators are sometimes etched with arrows or shaped like arrows and/or use the convention that one that lights up red means “down” and green means “up”. Since the color convention is often undermined or override by systems that do not invoke it, it is usually used only in conjunction with other differentiating factors.” Wikipedia.
