I just found the following list on my phone, of the most frequently seen TV ads on Chinese television (from when I was there in 2008).

  • Children not eating
  • Dandruff
  • Magic pills for women (general fix-everything elixirs)
  • Magic pills for children
  • Skin whitening “treatments”
  • Calcium drops for women
  • Pain killers

Here’s my list for Singapore (2009):

  • New restaurants and eating establishments
  • Underarm sweat stains
  • Skin whitening pills and masks
  • Skin care and skin treatments
  • Baby formulas
  • Toothpaste with miracle ingredients
  • Breast/figure enhancement (non-surgical) “treatments”
  • Miracle weight loss clinics and “treatments”
  • Miscellaneous cure-all ointments
  • “Romanticised” fast food
