eicolab: design thinking for business innovation

Building your future starts with now

“The future is not something hidden in a corner. The future is something we build in the present.” - Paulo Freire.

So what can you change today? Right now?

Mobile phones and planes

We know that airlines go on and on about how mobile phones and other transmitting devices interfere with aircraft navigation systems. Is this for real? Or is it a cynical attempt to get up to use their air phones?

Given the ubiquity of phones, and the forgetfulness (or deliberate recalcitrance) of humans, I am sure many an aircraft fly perfectly well with transmitting mobile phones on board. After …

Language and innovation

Does the subtleties and nuances, the richness and adaptability, of a language impact a culture’s (a population group’s) ability to innovate?

If the language:

is rich with borrowed words;
is open to playful metamorphosis by the majority of the population and not just the hyper- educated elite;
is actively used by many people in diverse (but not isolated) geographical regions so has to promote both variation and cross pollination);
has been in use …

Here’s a great collection of various aircraft livery designs, appropriately categorised as Airplane porn.

Positioning, vision, mission statements

I came across this great site by Signature Strategies with succinct information and pointers on how to write positioning, vision and mission statements for your business.

Well worth a look, especially if you are a small business.

Creepy LG mobile ad

Yet another example of “ground breaking creativity” by some ad agency no doubt.

Fail.

A worthwhile twist on advertising

There are other fun things to look at too - like the child who thought Microsoft had something to do with toilet paper. This is a nice way to show the human face of a large corporation. And $1 is a nice amount. Well done Microsoft.

Yes, I watched the demo. Now you …

Financial Review ads

fin-review-ad.thumbnail.jpg

I love these ads. Really clever (not not too clever). And very much appealing to the cerebral and not the visual (unlike most ads).

Well done to the Financial Review.

Artists in residence; in corporations

In a long conversation with Anita Kapoor yesterday about creativity and innovation in Singapore, we touched on the topic of the government’s interest in encouraging businesses to get involved with the arts.

One idea that appeared was this: artist in residence programmes within corporations.

Businesses do buy art. So why not buy an artist?

The really interesting, meaty part of this is: how can a business leverage the …

Funny name: cross-cultural fail

weewee.thumbnail.jpg

This is a real shop in Singapore.

Singapore is purportedly an English-speaking country.

Hence this must be a deliberate piss-take.

I can’t wait to discover their number two branch, named “doo doo” of course.

ROTFL
