How to keep a post upright

Singapore is busy setting up the track for the world’s first night time F1 race. I had a close look at one of the support pylons today.

It struck me how elegant and simple the design solution is. The post is attached to a solid steel base, and two solid concrete blocks are used to keep the whole thing upright and stable.

Appropriately engineered, not laboured over. It is temporary afterall.

Nice.
