eicolab: design thinking for business innovation

Extending an existing service

Cute cat picture aside, this is an elegant adaptation and extension of the functionality of an existing device (the Wii remote) – converting it from a mere remote control to a steering wheel with the simple addition of a plastic hoop. The remote control itself already has all the necessary accelerometers. The round bit both communicates the “new” function and makes using it easier.

If the Wii remote is an aspect of your business – be it a service or a product – how can you easily convert it into a new offering? How can you create a cool add-on for customers who already use your product or service?
