Does anyone know how much power the big backlit apple logo on MacBooks chew up?
Is it the tech equivalent of wearing a t-shirt with Armani Exchange or some other brand name printed big cross it?
What is the psychology behind this desire to overtly broadcast your association with a brand name?
(I for one will never buy something with a big logo on it. I only wear t-shirts with logos on it if I were given them. And yes, I have t-shirts with Apple and IBM logos on them, which I wear, which have been given to me.)
Is this a slow thought day or what?!!!

Apparently the backlight shines through the plastic bit that makes up the logo, so it is not using additional power. Extra feature - some people have complained that the backlight also shines through the lid. There is also a gadget you can buy to change the colours of the logo to rainbow - you not only pay for it, you also void your warranty in the process. I wonder if they are selling much of these colour-changing gadgets!
Well worth spending a bit of time thinking about it, but it’s actually a accidental feature that came about in an early design stage - they made the Apple logo out of a clear bit of plastic, and the backlight from the LCD shone back out!
I realised this myself when someone in the office asked me what was up with their laptop, as the logo was burnt into the screen. It was due to the sun coming through the window and shining straight through!
I love these accidental features - serendipity at work!
