"this has nothing to do with IT" Wow!!!

As I was writing this late into the night I noticed I kept having to remind myself this is IT-related. I kept drifting away into a more generic, higher-level view.

Reading through it now (in the harsh light of day...) it is quite apparently that indeed the real issues lie within PEOPLE.

I am doing another piece on chaotic clients from a designer's viewpoint. I suspect I will be revisiting many of the core issues identified here.

Wow this is an excellent synthesis!

What stands out for me is that most of this has nothing to do with IT but with a person's approach to business (and life?) generally. IT-related issues just draw out these weaknesses.

I will certainly post a more thoughtful response in a day or two. However for now I'll make one observation:

Change means change.

Too many people, I've found, think that buying an organisation tool will suddenly make them more organised. It won't. They have to change too -- if only to stop and learn how to use the tool.

The computer's address book won't help them keep track of business contacts unless they themselves have the discipline to enter all those addresses in the first place -- and then continue to add new addresses as soon as they meet someone. Every time.

Oh, and by the way: You're tagged!
