AMD or “Australian Mobile Dealer” phone spam

Lunchtime on a frigging Saturday, I was in the midst of dealing with social stuff and waiting for people to call back. And I get this long distance call from India, complete with 2 minute silence at the start, from this unknown, and supposedly “Australian” mobile hawker.

The person started off by prattling on about AMD – which I thought to be the microprocessor maker. Perhaps that was a deliberate ruse?

Anyway, I actually swore at the person on the line and threw the phone across the room, I was that pissed off.

I can relate totally. This is the second time they have rang my house.

Both times they state you have won this wonderful free prize – a new mobile phone.

Caller said they are based in Melbourne but with Indian accents.

I asked them for their telephone number and this was their excuse for not providing one …

“We are ringing people through the internet and thus don’t have a telephone number – also this is a promotion for a few days in your street only … blah blah blah”

All the bullcrap – little did they know i’ve had 5 yrs telemarketing experience myself – never again lol :)

Anyway had the staff member and the manager on the backburner – and i threatened to report them saying “im on the “Do Not Call Register”

Anyway to cut a long story short I have been through this process of reporting before and I don’t really feel like going through the whole rigmorole again.

I’m just happy to have my say on your website and in so doing so may make people wake up to this scam/spam whatever.

    Have a nice day :)
