A current ANZ Bank television ad goes like this: This man is showing a new employee around the office. He goes through an elaborate security and ID process to gain access to the inner sanctum. At the last step of the process, he smashes a glass bubble and grabs the key – which does not work! He then proceeds to bang on the door until someone inside lets him in. This person simply opens the door. Anyone could have banged on the door.

We can agonise over the best technical security measures, but the “weak” point remains with us humans. This is why phishing and other such social engineering or human-hacking tricks work. Someone rings up pretending to be from tech support and asks for your password. You get an email seemingly from your bank asking for your login...

On a positive note, it shows that most people are trusting and will tell the truth when asked a question. How can we celebrate and use this strength for good?
