eicolab: design thinking for business innovation

Keeping score vs satisfaction

“..numbers were useful only in keeping score, not in judging satisfaction.” Robert Ludlum’s in his novel The Altman Code.

I am thinking of the myriad of business/entrepreneur/etc awards out there that continue to celebrate money-making above all else. Boring.

Now what would be really interesting is to see if we can come up with a way to measure satisfaction, or happiness, or contentment; a way to truly quantify (yes in monetary terms) the value of meaningful work and respect in the workplace. Too complex you say? Well, if we can model weather systems, surely we can model the value of satisfaction? Are there any bottomliners out there who want to take up this challenge?
