Middle management disconnect
The big boss gets it. The employees get it. But nobody is going nowhere because middle management does not get it.
The big boss and the employees can’t get to each other. Middle management moguls are busy building their empires. Talented employees are being pushed out as the moguls swell their ranks with their mates (those loyal to their campaigns and not to your cause).
Does this describe your company? Are you sure?
Memo to big boss: go for a walk! Now! Talk to, and more importantly LISTEN to your people. It is YOUR job to set the direction, AND to maintain alignment to it. This demands a level of attentive steadfastness not many big bosses are used to!
Delegate-and-forget, mixed with I-am-the-top-cat complacency, is a deadly mix for the longevity of your company. Assuming you give a damn of course…
